Writing Prompts
Current:
I find myself at the extremity of a long beach. How gladly does the spirit leap forth, and suddenly enlarge its sense of being to the full extent of the broad, blue, sunny deep! A greeting and a homage to the Sea! I descend over its margin, and dip my hand into the wave that meets me, and bathe my brow. That far-resounding roar is the Ocean's voice of welcome. His salt breath brings a blessing along with it.
Nathaniel Hawthorne, "Foot-prints on the Sea-shore"
How do you feel about the ocean? Do you love it? Hate it? Does it frighten you or calm you? I invite you to write about the ocean or any experience you’ve had near the ocean.
Enjoy!

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot

What did you do this summer? What was your favorite activity? What don't you want to have to do again? Was there anywhere you went or anything you did that reminded you of something from your childhood?

It's a Mystery!
Please write about a time in your life when you experienced something mysterious. Did something happen to you or to your family? Was there an event in your neighborhood or community where it was hard to figure out the "who?" or "why?"
Was this mystery ever solved? What did you or the people you know do about it? What was your philosophy about the "not knowing?"

For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
T.S. Eliot

Numbers are a unit of measure, a teller of truths. They tell us how many days since, or how many days until. Numbers are addresses, passwords, and miles per gallon. They are baseball home runs. They are a temperature on a thermometer. They are countless smiles or tears.
We can be proud of numbers or ashamed by them. They can measure our height, our weight or our cholesterol. We number our children, our grandchildren and, sometimes, our spouses. A number may be lucky or unlucky or even unbelievable.
Please think about a significant number in your life and write about it.
